Making Your Own Charm Bracelet

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Charm bracelets are all the rage at the moment and making your own is a great hobby that allows you to create your own personalised jewellery at a fraction of the cost. You don’t have to to be an expert to start making your own jewellery. Jewellery crafting is a very popular hobby and there are plenty of resources out there to help you get started.

There are a few ways you can go about making your own charm bracelets. The easiest way is to buy all the components that you require in a ready to use form. This includes buying a chain, strap or carrier and the charm beads of your choice. You can then assemble the components together to form the finished item.

Another way is to buy a craft kit which has all of the things your require to make the charm bracelet. This may be a bit more involved and require you to assemble some of the parts yourself. Once you get a bit more experienced, rather than buying a kit you can buy all of the components separately. This gives you a bit more freedom because you can pick and choose the designs of all the components from where-ever you choose. You may need some tools and additional materials such as pliers, cutters and clasps to construct the bracelet. But after making a few bracelets you’ll soon get the hang of it.

Constructing your own charm bracelet is an inexpensive hobby and a great alternative to buying expensive jewellery. If you do a quick web search on google or browse ebay and amazon you will see there are plenty of companies selling the supplies that you require. Ther are also lots of great videos on YouTube showning you all the processes and techniques that you’ll require whilst making your charm bracelet.

Man Made Diamonds – Identifying The Difference In Quality

Friday, March 16th, 2012

There is much misconception about man made diamonds with most people assuming these diamonds to be fakes unlike natural diamonds that are mined and therefore real and as such highly priced.

This however is wrong because all man made diamonds are not fakes. These are also created on a diamond seed the core of which is a carbon atom just like in the natural diamond.

The only difference in the natural diamond and the synthetic is the time taken for the stone to come of age which in the case of the former takes millions of years under the earth whereas the laboratory created diamonds can be produced in a couple of weeks.

The synthetic diamonds too can be divided into three categories quality wise with there being the high grade diamonds, medium and low quality diamonds.

Although the chemical properties of all these diamonds are the same, the quality and appearance are different and this can be identified in the following manner.

If you were to buy your diamond jewelry from a high class reputed jewelry store, the setting for your diamonds would be in a valuable metal such as platinum, white gold or yellow gold.

The diamonds used for these settings will also be of a higher quality with hardly any flaws and inclusions in them whereas any diamond jewelry you order online might be of a lesser quality for which the settings would most probably be gold or silver plated making it possible to sell them at prices as low as $15 to $20.

Medium graded diamonds are something between the high and low and would most probably be set in sterling silver and priced at around $100.

Therefore it is possible to distinguish the quality of the stone from its setting as well as the base metal used and the price asked for.

Medium quality diamonds can also   be identified by the naked eye because they tend to look murky and not as clear and sparkly as good quality diamonds.

It  is however not possible to tell the difference between natural mined diamonds and high graded synthetic stones unless they have been tested in a gem laboratory because they are similar in quality and appearance.

Appreciating Man Made Diamonds And Their Affordability

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

The sparkle of a diamond makes you hold your breath. This is not just a modern phenomena but something that has been happening for centuries.   Not only Kings, queens, emperors and nobles, but also the common men and women have cried and died for diamonds, so powerful is its power and attraction.

Even in the early days, natural diamonds were not stones that anyone and everyone could own. While the fortunate few were able to show off their diamond encrusted selves with arrogance,    the average man could only look on with longing because diamonds were not for them and will never be.

In that sense, we can call ourselves fortunate because since the early twentieth century technology has made it possible to create diamonds in laboratories that are similar in every manner except in price to the natural diamond.

Man made diamonds have evolved to such an extent from its crude beginnings to what they are today that even a connoisseur will find it difficult to distinguish the difference between the two.  If it’s possible to think of a single fault, you could say that the man made diamond is too perfect whereas the natural diamond is less so.

Strange as it may seem to many, this happens to be the truth because diamonds mined from the earth have many inclusions and imperfections while the synthetic diamonds that come out of the labs are so pristine and perfect in every way with no inclusions at all.

Even in color and clarity there are no visible differences to the naked eye and only sophisticated chemical testing will be able to tell you whether a particular stone is man made or natural.

Contrary to what most people believe, both these diamonds are real and the synthetic diamond cannot in any way be called fake.

Both types have the same substance which is carbon atom around which the diamond builds up. While the natural stone takes millions of years to grow into an average size, the lab created diamond evolves much quicker   through the application of high pressure and heat.

It’s only fair that something that has been growing for millions of years   be treated with much respect and that’s why the natural earth grown diamonds call for very high prices whereas the lab grown kind can be bought for a more affordable price for which we should be thankful.

There Is A Lot To Learn About Chocolate Diamonds

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Did you know that one third of all the chocolate diamonds in the world come from Australia? Chocolate diamonds can be harvested anywhere where diamonds grow. Most of the time, a brown chocolate diamond has to do with an imperfection in the lattice, or with the presence of nickel.  Even though the name commonly assigned to these discolored diamonds is chocolate diamond, or brown diamonds, there can often be many different colors.

These colors can include orange, yellow, pink, red, or different shades of brown. The uniqueness of the color, makes each diamond unique in its own way. In addition, because these diamonds can be multiple colors, they can be combined with other precious stones to make dazzling displays that would not be possible using ordinarily colored diamonds.

It is important to note that chocolate diamonds, like other diamonds, are graded according to the 4 C’s. This grading structure includes ratings for cut, color, clarity, and carat. Most of the time, they can receive a very good rating for cut and carat. In addition, they can receive a good rating for the color, if it is a beautiful color. Where they sometimes lose points, is in the clarity of the diamond. The imperfection in the diamond can cause it to not be very clear.

The best diamonds will be clear so that they can sparkle and look beautiful. Diamonds are cut beautifully so that they can attract attention. Lots of people have become interested in chocolate diamond in the last two decades. Instead of just being used as backup stones, they are now often used as forward stones so that people can enjoy the splendor and beauty that a chocolate colored diamond has to offer.  Before you buy a diamond for yourself, make sure to look at chocolate diamonds and see what they have to offer for you.

Wedding Jewelry Ideas For A Fashionable Bride

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

If you are planning to walk down the aisle and want to look picture perfect at that moment you say your “I do”, you need to pay attention to more than just the gown and shoes that you wear while doing so. Shopping for wedding jewelry apart from the wedding rings is an integral part of planning for your special day. While you can always pick a bridal tiara or a hair accessory from a jewelry store near your place to complement your look, it would be a better option to get a piece of jewelry custom-made to meet your specific requirements.

In case you do decide to go ahead with the later idea, you need to keep a few pointers in mind before scheduling an appointment with a jewelry designer. For instance, you need to keep the style of your wedding gown in mind while designing a hairpiece or a pendant set to go with it. This is extremely important as a Victorian era inspired hair clip or tiara will never work with a sleek and trendy wedding gown that you will wear on your beach wedding. In addition to that, you should also consider the silhouette and fabric of your wedding gown at the time of buying wedding jewelry.

Thereafter, you need to factor your personal preference in jewelry while shopping for wedding jewelry. For instance, some women have a weakness for Swarovski embedded pieces while others like pearl sets better. There are still others whole like silver pieces that have semi precious gemstones set in them. Similarly, you need to keep the taste of your partner in mind while browsing through the collection of mens wedding rings. Weddings are as much about the couple as their ensemble and investing in exclusive jewelry pieces can help you make your special day even more memorable.

First if it is a foundation that you are using make sure that it is as close to your skin color as you can get otherwise it will make you look pale and washed out, and that is never good. Especially for the guys that are on the television doing news casts and things like that .

One of the best way that you can find out if a makeup is going to make you look washed out and sick is by getting the free makeup samples that makeup companies have to offer people that are not sure what their color is as far a makeup or foundation. You may ask yourself doesn’t that cost a lot to just hand out the free makeup samples to people? The answer is yes, at times it can be costly to start out with but in the long run it is most definitely worth it . You see for them to get the samples to hand out to potential customers a lot of the time they will spend $1.00 for 10 samples and out of the 10 samples if they only get 2 sales they have already quadrupled their sales because a person will spend anywhere from $2.50 all the way to 15.00 just on a good foundation that they like so if you do the math that is anywhere from $5.00 to $30.00 just on 2 sales that is not bad if you are just starting out. Choosing the Gem for Emerald Cut Engagement Rings

Friday, October 7th, 2011

When you want something that can show off the best assets of any gem, you ought to go for one with an emerald cut. Quite a few people choose emerald cut engagement rings because of the incredible visual impact it offers. The gem of choice for an engagement ring has traditionally been the diamond, although other precious stones like rubies, emeralds, and sapphires have also been popular.

When choosing what kind of gemstone you would like in your engagement ring, understand that not all gems tend to show off their finest qualities when in an emerald cut. While the emerald cut is popular it’s not as well liked as other styles, the various princess cuts for instance. That could mean a better bargain as well as a more select choice of emerald engagement rings from the jewelry shops.

When choosing a precious stone for your ring, remember that the emerald cut tends to amplify the inner qualities of the stone and that means you will need the least flawed gems you can find. If you are choosing the traditional diamond, make sure that the color is consistent. You can always ask help from someone who knows diamonds in evaluating your choice.

Emerald cuts are rather suited for colored stones as well, as they bring out incredible shades and facets of the color that would normally not show. Colored stones for emerald cut engagement rings can be a great choice and the uniqueness of the colors can be a great advantage as well.

Precious stones that are in emerald cuts ought to be flawless in color and clarity, or at least have no glaringly visible flaws. Go to your favorite jeweler for advice on high quality gems and what metals can go nicely with them.  Remember that choosing the stone is just a first step to that ideal engagement ring.
