Girl’s Night Out, Fun And Games On The Internet

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

The games you like will depend on whether you are a man or a woman.  This has only become apparent recently with the popularization of online games and video games in general.

While you might find many men that like playing solitaire, this type of mind and skill game has proven to be overwhelmingly a female type of game.

The opposite is just as true. Games like Half Life, Doom or Quake have traditionally been male games, where as women tend to stay away from them.  Some games are overwhelmingly male dominated.

Thinking and cooperating are the trademarks of women oriented game play, while men tend to compete and play to win. Women’s love for the puzzle category is a clear example of this.

The puzzle category includes many more games than just jigsaw puzzles. The puzzle category include match three games, games of spatial proficiency such as tetris and pattern recognition games..

Among the games you might recognize are Zuma, BookWorm, Supergems, Dingo and others.

How does playing alone stand against playing in groups? Apparently it doesn’t matter whether male or female, everyone likes to play in groups. One person shooters are the type of game a man would play, women on the other hand like community games such as online bingo..

The difference between the sexes is plainly visible in games such as Online bingo.  Although women may engage in competition community games such as Gamevillage bingo, their focus is usually fun and not profit and defeating a competitor is most definetly never the purpose.

Women are never losers in online bingo since they all strive to win but not to defeat each other, as opposed to the mechanics of poker which is about defeating other men.

Another difference is the amount spent in games of chance such as bingo games as opposed to harder gambling practiced by men. Women are not likely to risk more money per night than they would usually spend at the movies. Whereas men will play to win and risk more than they should in a game in order to be the winner.

Men will insist that the games women play are the ones they play with men in real life, but the truth is that women play for fun, community and mental skill and men are harder competitors out to defeat others.

Nowadays Ladies Seem To Be Taking The Lead When Playing Poker (Part 2)

Selbst has said that by removing herself from the game completely, gave her a new perspective on the game and she was able to tackle it with a clean slate. Following her NAPT win Selbst stated that, “When I’m playing tournaments now, I play so few that everything is fresh and seen from an outside perspective; I don’t get caught up in pre-programmed lines and thoughts, and I’m able to look at each situation anew. In some ways I’ve leveled myself, I needed some distance from the game to see it as it is.”

Lawyer gone poker, or poker gone lawyer, either way this leading lady is doing something right and has proven that she’s got what it takes to succeed in both fields. Selbst now plans to take next year off from her studies and return to the tournament circuit before completing her degree the following year. When Selbst finally completes her degree she is planning on spending 6 months of the year as a lawyer and the other 6 months enjoying playing the tournament circuit.

So chaps, are you really planning on letting the ladies win all the prize money this year? Naturally only time will tell, but one thing is certain, and that is that the horses are well and truly out of the blocks and the stallions have quite a race on their hands. Good luck to everybody in the rest of this year’s competitions and don’t forget we know a really great lawyer should things take a turn for the worse.

If you’re interested in pursuing a law degree you’re going to have to look elsewhere, but if it’s a little poker with the added bonus of rakeback you want to try your hand at then look no further.  You can also try your hand at Littlewoods Poker, or perhaps you prefer Betfair Poker

Nowadays Ladies Seem To Be Taking The Lead When Playing Poker (Part 1)

We have all heard of ladies night, but 2010 seems to be shaping up nicely to be ladies year. For starters, the NBC Heads Up Championship spot was taken home by Annie Duke who may have been inspired by her fellow heroine Vanessa Rousso’s runner-up finish the year before. Early April saw Liv Boeree take it all in the EPT San Remo which featured the largest EPT main-event field in all of the competition’s history; and last but certainly not least, Vanessa Selbst did some serious damage to the competition at the NAPT Mohegan Sun, walking away with $750,000 in prize money. 2010 is definitely seeing the women take the lead early on, and as we approach mid-year one might wonder if the boys will ever be able to catch up.

So what can be behind these ladies taking the cake? For Selbst it could be her luck, it could be chance, or it could be the impressive academic background that she brings to the table. It was during 2007 that Selbst first came onto the scene where she managed to finish 3rd in the heads-up championship of the World Series of Poker. It was only a year later that she picked up her first bracelet in a pot-limit Omaha contest and then as a complete surprise to most people she disappeared from scene. What about a holiday to a fantastic tropical island? Maybe a year off to work at improving her game? Hardly, Selbst took off to hit the books.

Selbst made the decision that poker was losing the fun a bit and she missed the intellectual stimulation of school.Selbst decided to return to Yale to pursue a degree in law as a human rights lawyer (she had already earned one degree and subsequently Fulbright scholarship). If you think about it, this career choice – skilled poker shark turned lawyer – isn’t that strange of a call as some of the qualities lawyers and successful poker players share are surprisingly complementary- analytical style, logical thought process- it makes sense.

She can always join in with Internet Poker and perhaps have a game of PKR Poker, or Everest Poker
